IR illuminator is an infrared radiation source used in CCTV for the near infrared illumination. IR illuminators are widely used for hidden object illumination and sharp image acquisition in low-light-level conditions or complete darkness. Luminous temperature is the most important characteristic of light sources in illuminating engineering. It defines the lamp chrominance and the color key (warm, neutral or cold) of the space lighted up by these sources. It is almost equal to the temperature of the heated body, that is of the same color with the given light source. Luminous temperature is measured in Kelvin degrees (K).

In applied lighting engineering it is appropriate to associate the luminous temperature of different types of candlelight sources with natural sources of light.
